Lexie York, a 29-year-old Ottawa citizen,
went to Mexico to spend a holiday with his mother last week
and was beaten in the tourist resort of Tulum.
She underwent nine hours of surgery,
her facial nerves were damaged,
and she could not return to Canada immediately due to inconvenience.
Her brother told the CBC reporter that
she arrived one day earlier than her mother
and met two couples
who lived in the same hotel during dinner.
Later, when she returned to the room,
one of the men came knocking at the door
and said that his wife heard the screams.
After she told everything to be normal,
the man broke into the room
and slammed her neck around her.
York was beaten to lose consciousness,
then woke up and went out to ask for help.
Due to serious injuries,
she was transferred to a hospital in Cancun for surgery.
Her mother and brother have already arrived in Mexico.
The police arrested a suspect
and accused him of attempted murder.
Mexico is one of the favorite winter destinations for Canadians.
